Brookfield Central and  Brookfield Academy Earn Boys Team Tennis Titles

MADISON, Wis. – Brookfield Central and Brookfield Academy captured State Team Boys Tennis Championships Saturday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of UW-Madison.

The top-seeded Lancers (25-2) won team championship with a 4-3 win over second-seeded Marquette (22-3) in the Division 1 championship match. Brookfield Central won all four singles matches. Surya Arvind won at #1 singles; Andrey Semin was victorious at #2 singles; Michael Li was the winner at #3 singles; and Noah Weitzer won his match at the #4 position.

Marquette won all three doubles matches, including Ryan Gould and Aidan Ferber at the #2 position. They captured the doubles championship at the individual tournament last week. Michael Stuckslager and Patrick Teuteberg also won their match at #1 doubles for the Hilltoppers after placing third in doubles play last week

The Lancers defeated Kenosha Indian Trail in the quarterfinals 7-0 and rolled past Kimberly 7-0 in the semifinals to advance to the final. The Hilltoppers swept Menomonie 7-0 in the quarterfinals and advanced to the championship match after edging Madison West 4-3 in the semifinals.

Brookfield Central won its fourth State boys team championship in the Lancers’ 16th team tournament appearance. Marquette advanced to the title match for the 18th time in their 20th experiences at State and finished runner-up for the third time.

Brookfield Academy (24-4), the #1 seed in Division 2, won its third straight team title with a 4-3 victory over second-seeded Notre Dame (24-6) in the championship match.

The Blue Knights score victories in three of the four singles matches. Adrian Yin won his match at the #1 position against Alex Thomas, who he beat in the singles championship match last week in the individual tournament. Rohan Singh and Krish Sharma also won their singles matches at the #2 and #3 positions, respectively.

The Blue Knights’ tandem of Sanjit Madireddi and Zach Weiner won the #2 doubles match. The Tritons took two of the three doubles matches, including the #1 position with Matt Gugluizza and Aidan Burich after they finished runner-up in the individual tournament last week.

Brookfield Academy advanced to the championship match following a 7-0 win over fourth-seeded Aquinas, and Notre Dame beat Edgewood 7-0 to earn its berth in the title match

The Blue Knights have advanced to the championship match in each of its five team tournament appearances with three championships. Notre Dame finishes runner-up in its 12th State experience.
