Ellen M. Hoffman, age 86, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, with her loving family by her side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 1, 2024, at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church, Blenker, where a visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Rev. Murali Anand Rayappan and Rev. Peter Raj will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Town of Sherry, Wood County, and serving as pallbearers will be Jason Selves, Corey Selves, Troy Selves, Jeremy Selves, Cody Hoffman, Justin Hoffman, Dalton Hoffman, and Kaden Hoffman.

Ellen was born on May 19, 1937, in Wisconsin Rapids, to Henry and Mary (Thiemke) Darr. She was a 1955 graduate of Pittsville High School. She was united in marriage to Raymond J. Hoffman on September 1, 1955, at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church, Blenker. He died on September 18, 2020.

Ellen was employed at Wood County Social Services for 23 years, Bethel Living Center, worked in home health care, and Weyerhaeuser Corporation. She volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening, polka dancing, going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with family and friends.

In Ellen’s last days, although she had physical pain, she never liked to show it or complain. She seemed at peace, so calm, strong, patient, and appreciative with always a kind word, a thank you and an “I love you.” She loved her family dearly and it showed. Ellen was a strong, hard-working woman right up to the very end, still asking if her children wanted coffee, telling everyone not to wear themselves out and making everyone laugh right up to her very last days. She was a wonderful mother/mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend to many who adored her. Ellen was a precious gift from God. She touched so many hearts along the way. Her last advice given was to be kind to everyone. Ellen and Ray’s legacy will live on forever in their family. The love and support the family showed Ellen the last months of her life is a tribute of the hard work Ellen and Ray put into raising a loving, caring and supportive Christian family. Ellen and her sense of humor will be dearly missed. We love you Mom and Dad. Until we meet again…

Ellen is survived by her six children Francis (Connie) Hoffman of Jonesboro, AR, Stephen (Pamela) Hoffman of Marshfield, Kathryn (Thomas) Selves of Chili, Thomas (Betty) Hoffman of Milladore, Jacqueline Hoffman of Milladore, and Chad (Brenda) Hoffman of Rozellville, and a very special friend, Bill Haupt. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Cory (Laura) Mallard, Brandon (Natalie) Mallard, Nicole, Justin, Cody, Melissa, Brittany, Emma, and Izzabelle Hoffman, Dalton (Kali Karl) Hoffman, Kaden (McKenna Zieher) Hoffman, Jason (Kristi) Selves, Corey (Katrina Weatherford) Selves, Troy (Katelynn Deegan) Selves, Jeremy Selves, and eight great grandchildren, Logan, Caleb, Gage, Abigail and Jackston Mallard, Aaron Hoffman, Liam Weatherford, and Greyson Selves. She is further survived by brothers, Ralph Darr, Roger Darr and Dale (Cheryl) Darr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Everett and David Darr in infancy, sisters, Betty Mueller, Shirley Lawrence, and Joyce Kroening, four brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law.

A special thank you to everyone from Compassus who took part in caring for Ellen during her last days. You truly went above and beyond. Thank you to the many family and friends that constantly flowed through the door day after day bringing meals and to visit Ellen to tell her they love her. Her spirit will live forever within us.
