A Great Response by All

Greenwood – Early Tuesday evening a fire was reported at Grassland Dairy Products, Inc, a leading, family-owned dairy manufacturer in Greenwood, Wisconsin.

The call came into the Greenwood Area Fire & EMS District at 5:38 pm that a dryer was on fire.

Upon arriving on the scene, Grassland Dairy employees had evacuated the area. Greenwood Area Fire & EMS District Chief Delmond Horn said, “12,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire.” The response of available area resources often poses challenges for many structure fires in rural districts. “The response was awesome, a great response by all,” said Chief Horn.

Nine additional agencies responded to the call. Fire Chief Horn said, “Over 30 units were on scene at one time.” Units consisted of Engines, Ladder Trucks, Tenders and support vehicles.

The call was closed shortly before 10 pm. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire resulted in damage to property and equipment owned by Grassland Dairy.

In May of 2018 Grassland Dairy held a walk-through with personnel from Greenwood Area Fire & EMS District.

In addition to Greenwood Area Fire & EMS District, additional responding agencies were from Abby-Colby (Central Fire), Owen-Curtis District, Thorp, Neillsville, Loyal, Chili, Granton, Stanley, and Spencer.
