10 Tips for Using a Notability Digital Planner

Digital planning is one of my favorite activities. It helps me stay organized and on-track. One app that I’ve been asked about recently is Notability. A Notability digital planner for note-taking and planning is a great tool. While it isn’t my personal go-to app, I did have time to play around with it and wanted to share what I learned.

And of course, I’m going to advocate integrating a high-quality digital planner like the Key2Success Digital Planner. With it, you can enhance your productivity and streamline your workflow. (Look for the PDF version, which works in Notability.)

So, without further ado, here are ten tips to help you get the most from your Notability experience.

1. Optimize Your Settings for a Seamless Experience

Before diving into planning, take time to customize your Notability settings. Enable auto-backup to Google Drive, iCloud, or Dropbox to ensure your notes and planner pages are always safe. Also, adjust the grid or lined paper settings to fit your preferred planning style.

2. Create a Structured Filing System

Notability’s divider and subject system helps keep your planner organized. Use dividers for broad categories like Work, Personal, Finances, and Goals. Within these dividers, create subjects for specific areas such as daily planning, weekly goals, and financial tracking. (In the case of Key2Success, this is set up for you in a template.)

3. Utilize Templates from the Key2Success Digital Planner

The Key2Success Digital Planner comes with professionally designed templates that fit seamlessly into Notability. Whether it’s a goal-setting layout, financial tracker, or business planning page, these templates provide a structured way to stay organized.

4. Use the Lasso Tool for Easy Edits

The lasso tool is one of Notability’s most powerful features. Select any handwritten text, shape, or sticker and move it around, resize it, or duplicate it. This is great for adjusting your planner layout dynamically.

5. Take Advantage of Audio Recording for Meetings and Notes

Notability’s audio recording feature is super helpful, especially for professionals and students. If you’re in a meeting or lecture, record the session while taking notes in your planner. The audio syncs with your notes, allowing you to revisit specific points later.

6. Use the Highlighter for Efficient Organization

Color-coding is key for digital planning. Use Notability’s highlighter tool to categorize tasks and notes, or to implement time blocking.

7. Import PDFs and Other Documents into Notability

One of Notability’s strongest features is its ability to import PDFs. If you receive reports, meeting notes, or important documents, import them directly into your planner and annotate them as needed. The Key2Success Planner is designed to be imported into Notability for easy access and customization.

8. Utilize the Split Screen Feature for Multitasking

Take advantage of Notability’s split-screen mode to boost productivity. Open your planner on one side and a reference document, email, or browser on the other. This makes it easy to plan while reviewing important information.

9. Set Up Handwriting Recognition and Math Conversion

If you prefer handwriting, enable handwriting recognition (OCR) in Notability. This allows your handwritten notes to be searchable. For those working with numbers, turning on math conversion will make mathematical notes neater and more readable.

10. Export and Share Your Planner Pages

Need to share your weekly schedule, business goals, or financial summary? Notability allows you to export your planner pages as PDFs and send them via email, cloud storage, or even print them. This is especially useful for team collaboration and accountability.

By integrating the Key2Success Digital Planner into Notability, you unlock a powerful combination for digital planning. Whether you’re managing work tasks, personal goals, or finances, these tips will help you optimize your workflow and stay productive. Take control of your planning today and make the most out of Notability’s features!
