ABBOTSFORD – The Spencer/Columbus Catholic wrestling team lost its first Cloverbelt Conference dual in nearly two years as it fell to Abbotsford/Colby 42-35 on Thursday night at Abbotsford High School.
The Rockets, who went undefeated in the Cloverbelt Conference dual meet season last year, last lost a conference dual at Cadott in January 2017.
Spencer/Columbus won two matches by pin, one by technical fall, three by forfeit, but Abby/Colby was able to pull out the win with five pins and two forfeit victories.
Daniel Richmond won by pin at 195 pounds in 1:20 over Angel Diaz, and Logan Zschernitz pinned Angelo Hutman in 1:56 of the 285-pound match for two of the Rockets’ wins.
Carson Hildebrandt won the other for Spencer/Columbus (2-1 Cloverbelt Conference), among those matches contested, with a 16-1 technical fall victory over Brandon Vicente at 160 pounds.
River Holapka (113), Mason Wellman (138), Logna Ruesch (145), Chance Clement (152) and Carter Grewe (220) all won by pin for Abbotsford/Colby (1-1 Cloverbelt Conference).
Spencer/Columbus will wrestle at the Shawano Invitational and Abbotsford/Colby will be at the Auburndale Invitational on Saturday.
