Schools and Conferences released their 2020 schedules this week and here are some of the big games we are looking forward to.
Week 1
Mosinee @ Stratford
The Mosinee Indians will be a good week one match for a rebuilt Stratford Tiger roster, and also give them some play against a unique team on their schedule, one that will challenge them through the air more than anyone they have faced in the previous few seasons.
Auburndale @ Pittsville
One of the better rivalries that is played every year in the nonconference schedule, this game has been a fixture of both schools week 1 schedule the past few seasons.
Loyal @ Abbotsford
A great rivalry that now moves into the nonconference realm with realignment, this game has been a de facto conference championship game for the past few seasons.
Week 2
Stratford @ Edgar
The Big One survives realignment as the Tigers will make the trip to Edgar for what is now a huge nonconference matchup. Each game in the past few seasons has been decided by less than a touchdown.
Medford @ Menominee MI
One of the big knocks against Medford last season was what ended up being an easy schedule, this year they take on a challenge with a road trip up to Menominee Michigan
Spencer/Columbus @ Colby
Former Cloverbelt Conference foes will meet in a nonconference matchup this year. Last year the Hornets were able to pull out the win on the road but needed two goal-line stands to do it, one at the end of regulation, one in overtime. The Rockets will be looking for revenge in this new nonconference matchup.
Week 4
Abbotsford @ Athens
Athens and Abbotsford will be battling with Edgar, Auburndale, and Colby for the conference crown in the retooled and stacked Marawood, and this matchup looks to be a big early-season test.
Iola-Scandinavia @ Loyal
With Loyal and Iola-Scandinavia’s move to the Central Wisconsin Small conference this season, it sets up a big test as both teams look to start off on the right foot in a new conference.
Wausau East @ Marshfield
Former Wisconsin Vally Conference foes these two teams haven’t met in 4 years. Marshfield looks to have the upper hand in this one coming off two straight conference titles but with the new landscape of high school football, it is hard to know.
Week 5
Colby @ Abbotsford
What could be the premier rivalry of the new Marawood Conference, the Colby Hornets, and the Abbotsford Falcons will play in conference for the first time in recent memory. With the schools being less than two miles apart we hope for some fun pageantry on this one.
Spencer/Columbus @ Amherst
These teams have met in the playoffs a lot over the past number of years, including down at Camp Randall, but they will meet in conference for the first time this season as Spencer/Columbus moves to the Central Wisconsin Large.
DC Everest @ Marshfield
The Big One in the VFA as the Evergreens will be looking to avenge a last-second loss to the Tigers from last year.
Week 6
Auburndale @ Abbotsford
These two teams have met the past three years in the playoffs, with Abbotsford getting the best of the matchup each time. Now they will meet in the new Marawood Conference.
Greenwood @ Newman Catholic
Greenwood makes the move to 8-player football this season, and this will be the biggest test on their schedule as they make the trip to take on defending state runner up Newman Catholic.
Loyal @ Almond-Bancroft
Another new matchup the Loyal Greyhounds will travel to take on a new opponent in the Almond-Bancroft Eagles, who have won the CWC-Small the past two seasons.
Week 7
Loyal @ Pittsville
Another new matchup as the Panthers will host the Loyal Greyhounds in a battle of two teams who finished 2nd in their conferences last year.
Week 8
Stratford @ Spencer/Columbus
They played as non-conference foes the past two seasons, this year it will be in conference as the Rockets and Tigers meet for the third year in a row. Their proximity and histories make these two teams natural rivals in the Central Wisconsin Large
Medford @ Mosinee
The Cheese Grater is up for grabs again, last year Medford won it in convincing fashion but Mosinee will be looking to get it back.
Wisconsin Rapids @ Marshfield
The most-played rivalry in the area and the 4th most played in the state is renewed in Marshfield as the Red Raiders travel north to take on the Tigers.
Week 9
Amherst @ Stratford
Teams that have met several times in the playoffs will meet in conference for the first time. This looks to be a conference title game most years as both schools are able to keep up a high level of football year in and year out.
Marshfield @ Stevens Point
Another long term rivalry game as these teams have met 105 times, this time in Stevens Point. Marshfield has had the Panther’s number the past few seasons but this is a new year.
We will have full breakdowns of each team’s schedule throughout the spring and summer as we look forward to the 2020 football season.
