2020-2021 record/place in conference:
∙13 – 3 dual meet record, 2023 Cloverbelt Dual Meet and Tournament Champions. Last
season we had 10 wrestlers qualify for the W.I.A.A. Division 3 Individual State
Tournament. Six boys and four girls.
Comments on players who may/should provide team leadership:
We have a small group of seniors this season. Nick Goettl, Caden Kingston, and Axel Tegels will
represent the Hornets as seniors this season on the boys’ team. Alaina Kempen, Jaycee Stephens,
and Makenna Harel will lead the way as seniors on the girl’s team. Caden Kingston, Axel
Tegels, Nick Goettl, and Kaleb Lodahl will take on the leadership role this season. State finalist
Iszy Sonnentag will lead our girls’ team and will provide leadership on the boys’ team, as well.
These wrestlers are not only vocal leaders, but also have been leading by example. We only are
returning five varsity starters from the 2022-2023 season. We have four wrestlers in the room
who have qualified for the individual state tournament. Kaleb Lodahl, Iszy Sonnentag, Alaina
Kempen, and Axel Tegels have all seen action in the Kohl Center.
What new athletes are expected to make an impact on the team this season?
We are bringing in a group of eight freshman this season. This is a very talented group of
immediate impact on our line-up. Expect to see Iszy Sonnentag, Kaleb Lodahl, Garrett Engel,
Monte Lodahl, Nick Goettl, Owen Fasbender, Jon Phelps, Brenton Faber, Brock Webster, Caden
Kingston, Mitchell Reineke, Axel Tegels, and Tucker Salzgeber to see varsity action early in the
season. Jimmy Carranza, Ridley Bergeron, Anthony Glenz, Evan Lallemont, Peyton Presswood,
and Landon Starck will compete for varsity spots.
Key Losses:
Brayden Sonnentag (4x State Champion), Nick Fasbender (4 year varsity starter), Tristan Drier
(4x State place winner), Cole Pfeiffer (3x state qualifier and 2x state place winner), Dawson
Webster (3x state qualifier and 2x state place winner), Levi Lindsay (State place winner) , and
Kane Mengel were lost to graduation.
Team strengths:
I believe our team strength is that we are coming together as a team. Our kids are not focused on
the “I”, but rather are focused on the “we.” Many of our athletes have trained all summer to
improve their skills. They are coming to practice ready and willing to work hard. I really feel that
our team is wrestling for three purposes this season:
∙To help our team members reach their goals on and off the mat.
∙To win the regional and have a chance to qualify for Team State
∙Get as many individuals to the W.I.A.A State Tournament as possible
Kaleb Lodahl, Monte Lodahl, Caden Kingston, and Mitchell Reineke all trained at Crass-Trained
this summer and have made great gains. We have many wrestlers who have the desire to be great
and we have many experienced wrestlers to lead the way.
Overall Outlook: We have a positive outlook for the season. Although we are a young team. I
am excited to see the next generation of wrestlers enter our line-up. This will be a rebuilding
season. We are off to a great start and are excited to see what the season has in store for us. The
coaching staff has high hopes for this team, but their success is up to them as a team. We need
every wrestler to stay committed throughout the season, stay healthy, and maintain good grades.
If we do this, I feel the sky’s the limit for this team.
Thoughts on the conference race
I feel Neillsville/Loyal/Greenwood, Regis/ Altoona and Stanley-Boyd along with us will contend
for the conference championship.
How do you plan to improve from last season?
We will continue to work with each and every wrestler to improve their skills and to help them
reach their individual goals, as well as reaching our team goals. We need to fill all of our weight
classes to be competitive. It is our goal to fill all the weight classes and stay healthy.
What is your favorite part about coaching/what do you think it will be this year?
I have always loved wrestling. Sport helped change my life. The coaching staff is very excited to
have the opportunity to work with our athletes. We have a very special group of kids who are
very fun to be around. I am looking forward to many weekends of wrestling with our wrestlers
and Cadott wrestling family. Our athletes will achieve their goals, they have worked too hard not
to. Win or lose, I know these kids will give their best effort.
