2024 Northland Lutheran Wildcats Golf Season Preview
Coaching staff:
- Steve Johnson – coached at Valley Lutheran in past years; son Konnor will play on the team.
- Eric Pahl – first time golf coach. NLHS alumni; son Elisha will play on the team.
Key returners:
- Konnor Mehlberg – Konnor finished in first place in the CWC last year and qualified for the State Tournament where he finished tied for 16th. He was All-State Honorable Mention and an Academic All-State golfer.
- Kiley Johnson – Despite being only a freshman, new to golf, and on a team with 3 seniors, Kiley was able to have her score count in 2 of the four conference meets last year.
Key newcomers:
- Elisha Pahl – Junior at NLHS. First year competing. Likely starter. Expecting to shoot bogey golf.
- Rest of the team is still largely unknown
Conference outlook:
We’d expect Bonduel to be the frontrunner for conference champs after winning it the last two years and Wittenberg or Amherst trying to challenge them for the top spot. Since our team is brand new, we don’t have enough information yet to make a guess as to where we might finish.
Keys to your success this season:
Turnout will be key. If Konnor continues to play at a high level and Elisha can avoid blowup holes, we’ll have a solid base. Still unknown what level of talent exists for the newcomers. Given it’s our first year, I expect significant improvement in the team over the course of the season.
