2024 OnFocus Season Preview: Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Girls Golf
~Information shared by LHS Head Girls Golf Coach Justin Weinhold ~
I am joining the Girls Golf Team at Lincoln High School for the first time, my experience includes being a Summer Programming Coach with the First Tee for the past 5 years. I am joining Pat McDonald on the coaching staff. Pat brings a great background from his previous coaching of the Boys Golf Team and his Junior Golf Program that he runs in the Summer.
Key Returners for our team includes 9 out of our 10 athletes including 3 seniors (Brooke Strangfeld, Gabby Neilitz, and Lexi Cour).  Other Returners include: Ava Fetterer, Natalie Henslin, Evie Bohman, Lyla Ruffalo, Ava Sadler, and Kate Ninneman.
Our Newcomer this year is Anastasia Nelitz, sister to Gabby, one of our seniors.
Conference Outlook:   I see our team being very competitive this season within our conference as we have finished in second place in our first two legs of the varsity season.  We have a new addition to our conference this year in Adams Friendship which adds another dynamic to the conference as well.   Our next conference leg will take place Friday (September 6th) in Marshfield, and then next Friday (September 13th) for our home leg at Ridges Golf Course.
Keys to our success this season:   I have been really impressed with the skill level of the girls on our team and the way that they support one another.  Golf can be a very individualistic sport and also a very mental game.  Our girls are dedicated to their sport and many of them will seek out opportunities to improve their game by heading to the range to work on their swing and build confidence in their clubs beyond our scheduled practices.   That extra effort has let to the girls experiencing success in our matches that we have had thus far and will only help to inspire further success.   I am also very humbled by the support of the golf courses that we have here in Wisconsin Rapids that are willing to allow us to practice at their facilities be that on the range or out on the course.   Those sites include Bullseye Golf Club, Tri-City Golf Course and Ridges Golf Course.  We have also had support from the previous Coach, Andrew Cook and Karen Scarseth with support for both the girls and help in guiding my growth as a coach in this program.  I am excited for the potential this team has shown and look forward to future successes.
