Plainfield, WI (OnFocus) A 6-year-old Kindergartner at Tri-County Area School District was struck and killed while waiting to board a stopped bus on Hwy 73 southeast of Plainfield.
The incident occurred at 7:15 a.m. Monday when a vehicle traveling southbound in the same direction as the bus attempted to pass and struck a family of students. The bus was stopped with flashing lights activated.
The other female family member involved in the incident was transported to the hospital for evaluation, the school district stated in a release. The district did not possess further information regarding her status while the investigation was underway.
The State Patrol is working in conjunction with the Waushara County Sheriff’s Department.
In a follow-up announcement Monday afternoon, the school district stated that after meeting with the mother and family, they learned that the 4-year-old sister injured in this incident has been released from medical care with “relatively minor” injuries and is recovering at home.
District counselors, Waushara County Crisis Team, and additional counselors from Wautoma School District have offered support throughout the day to students and staff.
“The District would like to offer sincere gratitude to the numerous school districts who reached out to extend their condolences, many of whom also offered to lend counseling support to our students and staff if needed,” the district stated.
