MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The annual remembrance of the victim of a drunk driving incident, Tyler Manthe, will take place at Bakerville Sports Bar on Saturday.
Manthe, whose life was taken on August 5th, 2017, was a designated driver on the night he was hit and killed. Manthe was a 2014 graduate of Marshfield High School and was on his way home when a drunk driver crossed the center line and collided with Manthe’s vehicle. He was pronounced dead just hours later at St Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Now, in remembrance of Tyler and the harm that driving drunk can cause, the Manthe family hosts an annual wrestling event named, “A Nite for Tyler.”
Frontline Pro Wrestling will hold an event starting at 6 p.m., with proceeds going to fund the Tyler Manthe Memorial Scholarship Fund. Admission is free and the doors will open at 4 p.m.
Manthe’s mother, Gidget Tobin said her son loved wrestling and the family wanted to share that love with others who have the same passion.
“We set up a scholarship fund at Marshfield Area Senior High for other wrestlers. Tyler loved wrestling, and we knew this was an appropriate way to give back to others who also had a love of wrestling,” Tobin shared.
The fundraiser impacts far more than scholarship recipients, however. After Manthe’s death, Tobin said the family sought a way to provide awareness of the effects of drinking and driving.
“We decided to hold a fundraiser every year, to raise funds for a purpose, and to provide awareness of the effects of drinking and driving, in memory of Tyler.”
Frontline Pro Wrestling has done shows to raise funds for both military and veteran causes in the past but this event always hits close to home. Frontline Pro is owned by Tobin’s cousin and he wished to do a show in honor of Tyler.
Basket raffles, music, door prizes and more will accompany the live wrestling.
