For Stevens Point (OnFocus) – 99-year old Virginia Posny received an unexpected surprise this week when Chancellor Bernie Patterson arrived at her doorstep with a UWSP diploma for her.
Virginia attended UWSP in the early 1940s when it was known as Central State Teachers College. She took classes for a couple of years and was even crowned Prom Queen with her husband Louis as Prom King! (Even though she wasn’t enrolled at the time she was crowned, Louis was.) When World War II began, Virginia had to put a pause on her college career to join the workforce and support her family.
Chancellor Bernie Patterson learned of Virginia’s time on campus after meeting with her daughter Alexa. It was then discovered that Virginia had earned enough credits during her time at Central State Teacher’s College to receive an associate degree from UWSP! 🎉Yesterday, Chancellor Bernie Patterson was able to officially present her diploma to her at her home, after a parade of friends and family drove by to celebrate and honor her.
“Virginia has been a part of our Pointer family for all of these years, but we are so excited to have her officially welcomed into the alumni family!” UWSP Alumni said in a social media statement. “One lesson we can all learn from Virginia is that it’s never too late to earn your degree from UW-Stevens Point.”
