A Closer Look, Marshfield Student-Athlete Kailyn Kurth Answers the Tough Questions: Pancakes or Waffles?

We take a closer look at Marshfield Tigers Senior Standout Student-Athlete Kailyn Kurth, with our world famous interview, ‘Pancakes or Waffles?’

OnFocus: What are your favorite subjects/classes and why?

Kurth: I love psychology and anatomy and physiology. I have  always loved any science class or STEM classes.

OnFocus: What are your hobbies?

Kurth: I love to sculpt with air dry clay and paint them. I also love to read and listen to music. I’m always looking at Target for more vinyl records to buy.

OnFocus: Who is/was your first favorite teacher and why?

Kurth: My first favorite teacher was my 7th and 8th grade global studies teacher, Mrs. Schmidt. She always made coming to class really fun and made learning about history enjoyable.

OnFocus: What is the most unusual food you have eaten?

Kurth: I ate a salted cricket in 5th grade for science class.

OnFocus: What is your favorite music to listen to?

Kurth: I love to listen to relaxing folk music while doing homework, but also love to listen to rap before a game.

OnFocus:  What are your plans after high school?

Kurth: I plan on attending UW La Crosse to major in biology or molecular sciences on the Pre PA track. I also am playing volleyball at UW La Crosse.

OnFocus:  If they made a movie about you, and your life, what would it be called?  Legally

Kurth: Ginger

OnFocus: What sports do you play?

Kurth: I play Volleyball and Soccer

OnFocus: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted island?

Kurth: Lauren Homolka because she would be too distracted trying to find her eyelash curler when I would be building a shelter.

OnFocus:  Who are your favorite athletes and/or teams?

Kurth: I love watching the badger volleyball team along with Argentina when the World Cup was on.

OnFocus: What do you enjoy most about competing in front of family, friends and fans?

Kurth: I love having a support system around me and knowing that my family and friends are there puts me at ease. I love the atmosphere fans bring to the game. It’s fun to play in a loud gym.

OnFocus:  Do you have a funny or unusual moment(s) you have experienced in sports?

Kurth: My team knows I don’t really know how to dive for a ball, so every time I dive it makes that weird squeaky noise.

OnFocus: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at Marshfield Area Senior High School?

Kurth: I love the flexibility of the teachers. They are always very accommodating if you have a heavy load and feel overwhelmed. Communication is everything.

OnFocus:  What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes?

Kurth: Have the attitude that you always can be better. Never be satisfied with the athlete you are. Trust your teammates around you and always be 2% better than you were the day before.

OnFocus: Lastly, pancakes or waffles?

Kurth: Waffles definitely. Pancakes can get soggy before you even get to eat them.
