MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The next election will take place on Tuesday, November 8. The City of Marshfield has put together a list of frequently asked questions and answers. Frequently asked questions

How do I register to vote for the November 8, 2022 election?

  • Register online at MyVote.WI.gov through Wednesday, October 19, 2022.
  • Registration can be done in-person at City Hall during regular business hours until November 4, 2022. You may also register on Election Day. Proof of residency is required.
  • There is no voter registration on the Monday prior to the election.
  • Voters must be 18 years or older, a US citizen, and have resided at the address you provide on your registration form for at least 28 consecutive days immediately proceeding the election in order to vote.

How do I request an absentee ballot?
Contact the City Clerk and request that an application for an absentee ballot be sent to you. You may make a written application to the City Clerk for an absentee ballot by mail or at MyVote.wi.gov.

Your written request must include:

  • Your voting address within the municipality where you wish to vote
  • The address where the absentee ballot should be sent, if different from the address
    above
  • The election(s) you wish to receive an absentee ballot for
  • Your signature
  • A copy of your photo identification

The deadline for making application to receive an absentee ballot by mail is
5:00 p.m. on the fifth day before the election, Thursday, November 3, 2022.

How do I return my ballot?

  • Absentee ballots may be returned via USPS or at the City Hall front desk during regular business hours by the voter.
  • Absentee ballots MUST be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
  • Per a recent appeals court decision, absentee ballots may not be returned via the drop box.
  • Per a recent circuit court decision, voters may only drop off or mail their own absentee ballot.
  • Pursuant to the Voting Rights Act, any Wisconsin voter who requires assistance with mailing or delivering their absentee ballot to the City Clerk because of a disability, must be permitted to receive such assistance by a person of the voter’s choice, other than the voter’s employer or agent of that employer or officer or agent of the voter’s union.

When is in-person absentee voting?
In-person voting takes place at City Hall.

  • Tuesday, October 25, 2022 to October 27, 2022 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, October 28, 2022 from 7:30 a.m. to noon
  • Monday, October 31, 2022 to Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, November 4 at 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 5 at 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

No appointment is necessary; please bring a photo ID. There is no absentee voting on the Monday prior to the election.

When are polls open on Election Day?

The polls are open at 7 a.m and close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. There are three locations in the city of Marshfield for voting on election day.

  • Oak Avenue Community Center, 201 S. Oak Avenue, Marshfield – Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 and City portion of Marathon County
  • Second Street Community Center, 211 E. 2nd Street, Marshfield, Districts 8 and 9
  • Wildwood Station, 1800 S. Roddis Avenue, Marshfield, Districts 5, 6, and 7

U.S. Senator, Representative in U.S. Congress, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Senator, Representative in Wisconsin Assembly, Wood County Sheriff, Wood County Coroner, Wood County Clerk of Circuit Court and the Wood County Referendum. You can view a ballot at MyVote.wi.gov to see who you can vote for.

Wisconsin requires a photo ID to vote

All Wisconsin voters must show an acceptable photo ID before voting. This includes voters at polling places and most absentee voters. The address on your photo ID does not have to be your current address and the name on your ID does not need to be an exact match to your name in the poll book (such as an abbreviated name).
