MARSHFIELD, WI (Submitted to OnFocus) – AARP Tax-Aide will be returning to the Marshfield Area to assist low income households and seniors with 2021 tax returns. This year all single people with income over $12,550 and married filing jointly families with income over $25,100 must file federal and state income taxes.
Individuals with incomes under $24,680 are also eligible to file for Wisconsin Homestead tax credit. This credit is available regardless if you own or rent or home even if you do not owe state taxes.
This free program is funded by AARP in cooperation Marshfield Parks and Recreation and the United Way. Internal Revenue Service Trained local volunteers will electronically file 2021 Federal, State and Homestead tax returns.
For those people who have used tax aide in the past there will be some changes this year. Prior to their appointment, we are asking people to pick up and fill out a tax packet at Marshfield Community Center, 211 East Second Street or from United Way 612 West Blodgett.
Because of COVID restrictions interviews will be limited to not more than 30 minutes. During that time taxpayers will be interviewed about their 2021 income and their tax documents will be reviewed and collected. At that time a followup interview will be scheduled approximate 2 to 3 hours later when the tax payer can pick up their completed tax forms and sign them at which time they will be electronically filed.
Tax payers need to bring proof of their social security number for all people on your tax return, a picture ID, your 2019 and 2020 tax returns, all income and tax deductions, W2 wage forms, interest and dividend statements, brokerage statements, 1099R retirement income forms, unemployment compensation, gambling winnings, disability benefits, medical, dental and long term care insurance, property tax or rent certificate, 1095A marketplace insurance letter, health saving account distributions and contributions, Economic Impact Payment and Advanced Child Tax Credit Payments letters, any other income or deductions or credits and a your bank routing number and account if you want direct deposit of your refund.
AARP restricts the complexity of returns that can be filed by volunteers. We are unable to file Married filling separately, Bankruptcy or divorce in 2021, Farm income, Business or rental deprecation, bitcoin, most K1 schedules and other complex returns.
Appointments will be scheduled every Monday from noon until 5 Pm and Wednesdays from 8 AM till noon starting February 14 and ending April 11.
