Abbotsford Girls Prevail over Newman

Wausau (OnFocus) – Newman Catholic took its only lead early in the second half against Abbotsford before the Falcons fought back and pulled away for a 32-22 Marawood Conference win.

The game was tied at 15 at halftime, and when Kaitlin Kalifice drained a three with 15 minutes remaining, Newman’s 18-17 lead would turn out to be the Cardinals’ lone lead of the game.

Mya Ruesch then sandwiched a basket between three-pointers over the next three minutes of play, and Abbotsford held a 25-18 lead.

The Abby defense then held Newman to four points in the game’s final 12 points.

Ruesch led all scorers with 11 points, and Alea Graff chipped in with 8 points.

Maggie Wulf had 7 points to pace Newman.
