ARKDALE, WI (OnFocus) – A captivating spectacle unfolded in central Wisconsin as a flock of American flamingos made an unexpected stop at Lake Petenwell. This rare sighting has drawn the attention of bird enthusiasts and wildlife lovers from across the region.
On September 22, these majestic birds were initially spotted in Port Washington, Wisconsin. They were identified as three adult male flamingos accompanied by two juveniles. The flock made its way to Lake Petenwell on September 30, where they can now be observed from the dam area off of Chicago Drive.
This unusual occurrence is attributed to disrupted migratory patterns caused by unusual weather conditions caused by Hurricane Idalia, according to wildlife biologists. American flamingos are not commonly seen in the Wisconsin area, making this sighting even more remarkable.
Local birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts are encouraged to visit Lake Petenwell to catch a glimpse of these elegant and unexpected visitors. Observers are reminded to maintain a respectful distance to avoid disturbing the birds and their habitat.
