Dylan is Americas most popular baby name, with a total 7,505 babies called Dylan born in 2023. 451 Dylans are girls and 7,054 are boys. Dylan is a gender-neutral name of Welsh origin, and means “son of the sea”, or “born from the ocean”.

Lily is the second most popular name, with a total 6,146 babies called Lily. The name Lily often links to bloom in summer, or being “pure”, due to links to the lily flower. It has a Latin origin, and historically has been symbolic of innocence.

The third most popular baby’s name is Parker, an English language unisex name, meaning “park keeper”. While Parker was more common in the 19th century, it has now made a comeback, with 6,085 babies born in summer 2023, of which 2,293 are male and 3,792 are female.

Aurora is the fourth most popular baby name for the summer, a name which refers to the dawn and early summer mornings. 6,054 baby girls were named Aurora in 2023, and five boys.

Ranking fifth is Isla, meaning “Island”, a popular summer destination. 5,357 baby girls were named Isla last year, and six boys.

Rounding out the top ten are Eliana, Kai, River, Ryder, and Iris.

Jason Hennessey, CEO of Hennessey Digital commented on the study findings:

“Summer brings many happy things to mind, including vacations, memories, and relaxation. Many parents often wish to associate their child with positivity, warmth and sunshine.

“Parents are also beginning to seek more unique names for their children, avoiding ones that are most commonly used.

Personal journeys may also be an influence behind choosing a name, often influenced by cultural heritage, family traditions, or individual aspirations for the child’s future.

“Unisex names are becoming a trend, as society is increasingly embracing gender fluidity and breaking away from traditional gender roles.

“Dylan, being the most popular, is a name associated with positive traits such as charisma, creativity and intelligence, and there are several well-known people such as Dylan Bruce and Bob Dylan who carry the name.
