Marshfield – On January 6, 2020, students, parents, educators and community members gathered in the Marshfield High School Library for the annual AP (Advanced Placement) Scholar Ceremony.
The ceremony, which started in 2004, is designed to honor Marshfield High School students who were awarded an AP Scholar Award. Last spring, a total of 185 students received at least one award.
The awards are divided into 5 categories: AP Scholar (51), AP Scholars with Honors (32), AP Scholars with Distinction (76), AP National Scholars (24) and AP State Scholar (2).
Advanced Placement classes are prepared and designed by the College Board. These classes bring the college experience to the high school classroom. Students who choose to take the AP exam have the opportunity to earn college credit that is transferrable to thousands of universities.
Quick facts on Marshfield High School’s AP Program:
- Consists of 29 subjects
- 41% of graduates in 2019 took at least one AP exam
- 394 students took a total of 852 exams
The AP Program at Marshfield High School consistently receives recognition from the College Board for being among the top schools in the state, if not the region. Renae Guldan, High School Counselor and AP Coordinator, believes high participation and performance rates coupled by support from parents, teachers and the community is what sets the Marshfield HS AP Program apart from others.
Ben Donahue, a 2018 Marshfield High School graduate, spoke at the ceremony.
