WAUSAU, WI (OnFocus) – As of August 1st, Aspirus Health has acquired multiple Ascension locations in Northeast Wisconsin.
The Ascension assets becoming part of Aspirus include: 2,700 employees, seven hospitals, 21 clinics and air and ground transportation services.
Aspirus President and CEO Matt Heywood said the rural nature of the acquisition will provide quality healthcare to those who may be overlooked.
“Rural health care is what Aspirus does exceptionally well,” Heywood said. “There’s two reasons that we’re really good at it: We understand rural communities because we live in those rural communities. We do not believe a zip code should determine the level and quality of care you receive.”
Aspirus has been named by IBM Watson Health a top-15 health system each of the past four years.
According to a release, to avoid confusion, the names of these hospitals and clinics will remain the same for the immediate future, although on site signs will indicate that they have joined Aspirus Health. Ultimately, facility names will be changed to reflect the Aspirus brand. By December 2021 all signs and materials will reflect the new Aspirus facility names.
Jenny Redman-Schell, President of Aspirus Medical Group, joined Heywood in sharing the importance of local care.
“We firmly believe strong local health care contributes to thriving rural communities, so this is an exciting day for our teams and our patients,” said Redman-Schell, who oversees all clinics. “Our strength hinges on securing the talent, the facilities and alignment to serve every corner of our service area. Today, that has increased significantly.”
The acquisition gives Aspirus a foothold in the health care industry from Merrill up to the upper-peninsula of Michigan. Aspirus now serves communities through four hospitals in Michigan and 13 hospitals in Wisconsin, 75 clinics, home health and hospice care, pharmacies, critical care and air-medical transport, medical goods, nursing homes and a broad network of physicians.
