Assumption Builds up Big Lead and Holds on to Down Almond-Bancroft

Almond (OnFocus) – Two running backs from the CWC-Small doing battle, each with big stats games and big plays. Assumption took a big lead in the fourth quarter and then held off A-B for a 41-27 win.

A-B’s Daniel Baumgartner and Assumption’s Nick Leberg each had two yard touchdown runs in the first quarter, and they each added a second quarter td as the game stayed tight. Assumption’s advantage at the half was from quarterback Jack Klatt connecting with Reed Duellman for a 50 yard strike to take a 22-15 lead.

The Royals built a 41-15 lead in the fourth quarter as they added three second half scores. Leberg, Xaivier Hoffman and Cade Statz scored on touchdown runs of 1, 50, and 12 yards, respectively.

Baumgartner threw for a score and ran for another in the final two minutes to conclude the game’s scoring.

Leberg led all rushers with 231 yards on 37 carries.

Baumgartner ran for 206 yards on 39 carries.
