Assumption Holds off Abbotsford in Marawood Girls Basketball Thriller

The Assumption Royals came back from an eight point second half deficit, holding on in the final minutes to defeat Abbotsford, 43-41 in Marawood Conference Girls Basketball.

The first half saw 13 lead changes or ties, with the Falcons holding a 25-22 advantage at the break.

The Royals came out of the block in the second half to knot the game at 29 before Abby took its biggest lead of the ballgame of 8 points. The 8-0 run  on baskets from juniors Sommer Brodhagen, Calley Ruesch, Sydney Falteisek and another from Brodhagen had the Royals on their heels, 37-29.

The Royals then methodically fought back. Following a Falteisek bucket with six minutes remaining, the Royals outscored the Falcons 9-2 to pick up the comeback win.

Abbostsford was led in scoring by Ruesch with 14 points and Falteisek chipped in with 10 points.

Kendall Duellman led Assumption with 12 points.
