WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption raced out to a big lead by halftime and held on to beat Auburndale 62-50 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Monday night at Assumption High School.
Assumption, playing in its season and conference opener, pulled out to a 30-13 lead by halftime with a strong defensive performance.
Auburndale (1-2, 0-2 Marawood South) managed to get its offense rolling in the second half, but it was too late to overcome the 17-point deficit.
Auburndale left a bunch of points at the free throw line, making just 19 of 36, as Assumption committed a whopping 28 fouls.
Natalie Aue had 17 points and Paityn Hamus added 10 for the Apaches.
Maddy Bohn scored 21 point to top Assumption.
Auburndale is off until Nov. 29 when it hosts Athens in a Marawood crossover game.
