Assumption Pulls Away from Pittsville to Earn Level 1 Football Playoff Win

Assumption and Pittsville battled in Level 1 Football Playoff action, a game that was close for the first half before Assumption pulled away for a 34-18 victory.

¨Great team win. Outstanding defensive game! We live to play another day!¨ shared Assumption Head Coach Jeff Sullivan.

The Royals and Panthers traded jabs with touchdown runs from Nick Leberg and Jake Hardinger, respectively, before Assumption went up 19-7 with 2:20 left in the first half, on runs from Leberg and Manny Schultz.

Pittsville then fought right back, scoring on a 62 yard touchdown from Dawson Luther. Luther then returned an interception for a touchdown just 16 seconds later and it was a one point game, 19-18.

The Royals then drove  in the final two minutes of the half for a Mason Kubis 30 yard field goal as time expired, and it was Assumption leading at the half, 22-18.

The Royals then padded their lead as Leberg caught a Jack Klatt pass  in the flat and bulled his way in for a 24 yard score three minutes into the quarter. Klatt connected with Ryan Shaw six minutes later for a 36 yard touchdown and the Royals held a 34-18 the rest of the way.
