Assumption rallies to knock off Columbus Catholic in Cranberry Classic girls basketball championship game

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Columbus Catholic girls basketball team led at halftime but couldn’t hold on, dropping the championship game of the Cranberry Classic to host Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 52-39 on Saturday afternoon.

The Dons (2-2) led 21-19 at intermission before Assumption stormed back for the double-digit win.

The Dons missed nine of their 15 free throw attempts in the loss.

Addie Baierl scored 14 points and Hailey Roehl added 12 for Columbus. Both were named to the all-tournament team.

Elle Leberg made four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 18 points for the Royals.

Columbus Catholic returns to action Thursday at Spencer.
