Parents Find Toddler Outside the Child’s Bedroom Window

LAKE DELTON, Wis. (AP) — An attempted kidnapping of a toddler in Lake Delton was thwarted when the child’s parents awoke to a noise in the youngster’s bedroom.

Police say the 2-year-old was found unharmed outside the bedroom window last Saturday about 3 a.m. Lake Delton Police Chief Daniel Hardman says the would-be abductor entered the home through the child’s bedroom window, brought the toddler outside and then fled.

The parents told police about a possible suspect, who is someone known to the family, but investigators have ruled out that person. No one has been arrested.

Press Release

Incident Type: Attempted Child Abduction
Location: Deer Run Subdivision, Lake Delton
Date of Incident: May 11, 2019

Details:
Shortly after 3AM on Saturday, May 11, Officers from the Lake Delton Police Department were dispatched to a possible prowler outside of a home in the Deer Run subdivision in Lake Delton. Upon Officers arrival, they learned that the occupants of the home had been awakened by a noise disturbance in a two-year old child’s bedroom. The parents discovered the child alone, outside the home at the base of the window, and called for police.

Evidence located at the scene suggested that a person had entered the home through the child’s bedroom window and likely brought the child outside the window and then fled the area. The child was unharmed and reunited with the parents prior to Officers arrival. Interviews with the victim’s family suggested a possible suspect, known to the family, and there were concerns that the suspect would flee the state if he knew of the police investigation.

After an extensive investigation of the information provided by the family, the subject in question has been eliminated as a possible suspect and we do not have any additional suspect information. The Lake Delton Police Department is being assisted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Lab with physical evidence recovered from the scene.
