Auburndale (OnFocus) – Three sport athlete Giorgi Schmutzer has excelled for the Eagles in volleyball, basketball, and softball. We caught up with Schmutzer to learn about what makes her ‘tick’ and answer one of the world’s toughest questions: Pancakes or Waffles?
OnFocus: What classes are you taking this year?
Schmutzer: This year I am taking AP English, College Algebra, Sociology, Personal Finance, and Individual Sports.
OnFocus: What is your favorite class?
Schmutzer: My favorite class is definitely English.
OnFocus: What are your hobbies?
Schmutzer: Some of my hobbies are volleyball, basketball, snowmobiling, and golfing.
The best thing about being a student-athlete at Auburndale High School would have to be the support from staff and classmates.
OnFocus: Who is/was your favorite teacher?
Schmutzer: Definitely Ms. Batien.
OnFocus: What is the most unusual food you have eaten?
Schmutzer: I’m a fairly picky eater, so sushi.
OnFocus: What is your favorite music to listen to?
Schmutzer: Country.
OnFocus: What are your plans after high school?
Schmutzer: Attend a 4-year college and hopefully play volleyball.
OnFocus: If they made a movie about you, and your life, what would it be called?
Schmutzer: Hm. Can’t say I can answer that one.
OnFocus: What sports do you play?
Schmutzer: Volleyball, basketball, and softball.
OnFocus: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted island?
Schmutzer: Frank (Kaitlyn); she’d leave me behind because I can’t swim.
OnFocus: What is your most memorable moment as an athlete?
Schmutzer: Every moment on the court with my teammates.
OnFocus: Who is your favorite athlete?
Schmutzer: Sydney Hilley.
OnFocus: What do you enjoy most about playing home games?
Schmutzer: The “rally boys” and all the fans that show up to support us…. pre-covid.
OnFocus: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at Auburndale?
Schmutzer: The best thing about being a student-athlete at Auburndale High School would have to be the support from staff and classmates.
OnFocus: What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes?
Schmutzer: Put in the extra hours of work, it’s always worth it. Time flies, enjoy every moment.
