AUBURNDALE, WI (OnFocus) – The Auburndale band program was chosen as the recipient of a grant courtesy of the Gloria & Arthur Konig Foundation.
The Gloria & Arthur Konig Foundation is a private charitable organization with the purpose of promoting and sustaining music in schools. With the funds, the Auburndale band department will be able to purchase new instruments, music, auxiliary percussion and mallets.
The grant comes as welcome sight for music and art programs that might be one of the first to go when budget cuts hit schools.
The foundation prides itself on being there for music programs as Gloria and Arthur Konig would have wanted. Associate Director of the Gloria & Arthur Konig Foundation and granddaughter of Gloria and Arthur Konig Nicole Miller said the foundation has a love for music and supporting student music programs.
“Unfortunately, funding for these programs can be the first to be removed from schools due to unsupportive circumstances,” Miller said. “We enjoy being able to support our kids in their love for music and arts. My grandparents would be very proud.”
The Auburndale band program currently serves about 130 students from 5th – 12th grade. Band director Jennifer Nueske said once she made the connection with Nicole, the grant was easy to apply for.
“I was contacted by Nicole Miller of the foundation and all I had to do was provide a list of needs our school had,” Nueske said.
