AUBURNDALE – Auburndale made 22 of 27 free throws and held off Augusta, winning the Auburndale Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament title with a 65-54 victory on Friday night at Auburndale High School.
The game was tight throughout, with Auburndale holding a 32-25 lead at halftime and the Apaches hanging on from there.
Auburndale was just 19 of 48 shooting, but made up for that with its superb free throw shooting.
Cooper Weinfurter made 11 of 13 free throws and scored a game-high 24 points for the Apaches, who improve to 8-1.
Colton Wright was 5-for-6 at the line and scored 12 points, and Carter Wilcott made 5 of 6 shots from the floor and also added 12 points in the win for the Apaches.
Tanner Alix hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points for Augusta (4-4).
Auburndale returns to action Jan. 4 at home against Phillips in a Marawood Conference crossover game.
