Auburndale, WI (OnFocus) A Christmas tree at the Auburndale School District has a few unusual ornaments in its branches this year that are all about promoting Wisconsin agriculture.
For the third year, agriculture students at Auburndale High School and Middle School decorated a live tree to both highlight the state’s Christmas tree industry and some of activities undertaken in classes.
The assorted ornaments included FFA medals, ear tags from Animal Science class, canning rings to represent a canning project completed in fall, a European deer mount with safety glasses on top, tinsel made of ear plugs, and a popcorn string put together using suture needles.
A bottle of medication and some packaged syringes were also hung on the one-of-a-kind tree.
“There’s medication, because we teach about how to give shots and take up doses for administering medication,” said Mark Cournoyer, agriscience instructor. “Syringes, because we learn how to use and dispose of syringes in a responsible manner.”
The forestry class also learned how to make wreaths, which were given to their families and community members who attend the school’s Wednesday coffee clutch.
After the holiday season, the tree will be recycled.
