Auburndale (OnFocus) – With just days remaining for schools to decide if they are playing fall sports in a revised plan this fall, or move to the spring, another change just announced will have ripple effects throughout central Wisconsin.
The Marawood Conference earlier this week committed to playing football this fall, only to see Auburndale on Thursday move to 8 Man Football for this season.
“The WIAA approved the move to 8-person for the 2020 season only. The reason given for the change was low numbers, not COVID-19 related,” said Marawood Conference Commissioner Mark Lacke.
With 7 teams in the conference, schools are now looking to fill the opening in their schedule.

With only a few days left before the September 1 deadline to announce their fall sports decisions, few changes are likely to be on tap. Lacke is now tasked with finding officials for the revised schedules, so changes in scheduling appear to be complete.
“I have been told to hire officials so hopefully athletes can plan play,” Lacked stated.
