Statement from School District
Earlier this morning, December 12, 2019, a threat of violence was found on a bathroom stall at Ben Franklin Junior High School. The language was specific to December 13, 2019, and threatened school violence. In response, the District informed Ben Franklin families and staff of the threat and our actions which utilized a consistent safety protocol we follow when these types of threats are identified. One of those steps is completing locker checks and facility inspection.
While completing the locker checks and facility inspection this evening, an additional threat of violence was found in a girl’s bathroom stall. The threat was specific and referenced the threat from earlier in the day. We believe the safest and most prudent course of action for students and staff is to cancel school at Ben Franklin Junior High on, Friday, December 13, 2019.
All school and after school activities for Ben Franklin Junior High are canceled for December 13, 2019. The threat was specific to Ben Franklin Junior High, however, we will have increased police presence in our schools tomorrow. We appreciate your patience as we work together to ensure the safety of our students.
