Athens took control early, and held a lead for much of the first half, leading 20-15 with five minutes remaining before halftime. Edgar then went on a 12-0 run in a three minute span.

The Wildcats knotted the game at 20 with a three-pointer from Borchardt and basket from Olysta Baumann to get things rolling. The Wildcats went to halftime with a 28-22 lead, and a packed Edgar gymnasium crowd was treated to an excellent first half of basketball.

The second half saw both teams in foul trouble, but it was Edgar that avoided any players fouling out, and kept Athens at bay down the stretch to claim the regional final win.

“Makayla really stuffed the stat sheet.  6 assists 8 rebounds 4 steals to go with 15 points.  WOW!!!” shared Edgar Head Coach Tom McCarty.

Borchardt led Edgar with 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Wirkus added 15 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.

Athens was led by Addison Lavicka with 16 points. Danica Diethelm added 12 points for the Bluejays.

Edgar scoring: Borchardt 21, Wirkus 15, Baumann 4, Schnelle 7, Davis 5, Skrzypcak 4

Stats:   Athens2

Athens scoring: Lavicka 16, Ellenbecker 5, Hartwig 5, So. Coker 9, Diethelm 12

“Reagan going for 27 points 10 rebounds and 21 points 13 rebounds is a pretty good 2 days of basketball,” added McCarty.
