Boson ties for medalist honors, leads Marshfield to team win in first leg of Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament

MARATHON – Nate Boson tied for meet medalist honors, holding off teammate Ben Baur by a stroke, to lead Marshfield to a team victory at the opening meet of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Friday at Pine Valley Golf Course.

Boson tied Wausau East’s Carter Cygan for top honors as both shot 6-over par 78s, one shot ahead of Baur. Baur shot an even par 36 on the back nine to finish third overall for the Tigers, including chip-in’s for birdies on holes 13 and 18.

Marshfield finished with a team score of 336, three shots ahead of Stevens Point and four in front of D.C. Everest. Wisconsin Rapids finished fifth with a 357.

Cole Hanson had an 89, Jeffrey Berres shot a 90, and Jaxon Bulgrin had a 91 to round out the scoring for Marshfield.

Evan Thomas topped Stevens Point, tying for sixth with an 83.

Andrew Sparks had an 86 to finish in a five-way tie for ninth to lead Wisconsin Rapids.

The second leg of the seven-meet conference tournament will be held Tuesday at Stevens Point Country Club.
