Here is how the most profitable sports teams in America rank against popularity worldwide
- Boston Celtics receives over 3,500,000 monthly searches worldwide, 46% more than Dallas Cowboys.
- Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable team in the world, but rank as the fourth most searched-for team overall.
- Golden State Warriors rank as the second most searched-for sports team.
Boston Celtics are the most searched-for American sports team worldwide, despite ranking as the 14th most profitable in America, generating $269,00,000 in profits.
A new study conducted by online sports betting site Betting-AZ, investigated the 20 most profitable sports teams in America and gathered each team’s global search volume to discover how the richest teams rank in terms of popularity.

Data on most profitable sports teams in America, by three-year operating income, from Forbes
The data has revealed that 13 of the 20 wealthiest sports teams across America are all football teams, suggesting that Football is the most profitable sport in America.
Boston Celtics are America’s 14th most profitable sports team, generating $269,000,000 in profits as of 2022. Despite ranking lower than other teams in profitability, they are the most globally searched American sports team, receiving an average of 3,570,000 monthly searches worldwide, suggesting that they are the most popular American sports team.
Next in the ranking are the Golden State Warriors, who have an average monthly search volume of 3,350,000 worldwide. Despite ranking second in search volume, the team ranks as the fifth most profitable sports team, generating $348,000,000 in profits as of 2022.
Miami Dolphins rank as the third team with the highest global search volume, with an average of 2,250,000 monthly searches worldwide. Like the Boston Celtics, the team ranks lower in profitability, landing in 16th place overall and generating $260,000,000 in profits as of 2022.
Surprisingly, in fourth place are the Dallas Cowboys, who receive an average of 1,920,000 monthly searches worldwide. Despite ranking as the fourth most globally searched American sports team, they are the most profitable sports team in the world, generating $1,171,000,000 in profits as of 2022.
Closing off the top five are the Dallas Mavericks, who receive an average of 1,910,000 monthly searches worldwide. The team ranks as the 12th most profitable team in America, generating $282,000,000 in profits as of 2022.
The data also revealed that the New England Patriots rank as America’s second most profitable sports team, generating $623,000,000 in profits as of 2022. However, they rank as the 13th most globally searched American sports team, with an average of 685,000 monthly searches.
Furthermore, the New York Knicks are the third most profitable team, generating $404,000,000 in profits as of 2022. Despite the high ranking in profitability, the team ranks as the 19th most globally searched team, with an average of 317,000 monthly searches.
Finally, the data also revealed that the Los Angeles Rams ranked last, with 249,000 monthly searches made worldwide. Despite ranking low in search volume, the team ranks within the top 10 most profitable sports teams, generating $318,000,000 in profits as of 2022.
A spokesperson for Betting-AZ, commented on these findings: “It comes as no surprise that the Dallas Cowboys are the most profitable sports team worldwide, as they are considered ‘America’s Team’, therefore being a patriotic symbol to Americans, as well as attracting fans worldwide.
“Though the Dallas Cowboys are a symbol of American sports culture, it is interesting to see the other teams that are winning the worldwide battle for searches, but there is still a long way to go for other sports teams to see the same profits as the Dallas Cowboys.”
