The Town of Rock and Township of Richfield fire departments were paged at 8:32 a.m. Friday morning for a car fire near 7341 Cth V, Town of Rock, about three miles south of Lindsey.
Richfield enlisted additional response from the Pittsville Fire Department since Richfield was 15 miles away from the scene. Town of Rock did not have personnel available to respond, highlighting a critical need for volunteers.
“Upon arrival the car was fully engulfed in flames and there were still something exploded in the car as we arrived,” said Chief Josh Sabo, Richfield Rural Fire Department. “The fire was quickly extinguished with water.”
The one person present in the vehicle was able to exit safely and without injury. The owner had been taking the vehicle in for service for transmission issues and noticed a sound of a hose or similar breaking and then something leaking fluid. After pulling over, smoke and flames began coming from the engine.
The vehicle is a total loss.
