Update 2/05/20:

At 7:50 a.m. on Jan. 30, a car was southbound on CTH K in the town of Auburndale by the railroad crossing. A snowmobile stopped at the stop sign designated for snowmobile traffic on the trail.

The 17-year-old snowmobile driver had a lunch box on his lap and while turning the handlebars, the lunch box got stuck underneath the throttle, according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department accident report. The snowmobile accelerated out of control and into the car, which had the right of way.

The 17-year-old was ejected from the snowmobile and sustained minor injuries. He was transported to the Marshfield Medical Center and then released. The snowmobile operator was issued a DNR citation for operating in a careless manner.

Correction: It was originally reported on 1/30/20 that the snowmobile was struck by the car and the driver ejected from the snowmobile based on information from the Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department, which completed the transport of the individual.
