They saw their highest proportion of followers come from Tiktok, with 303,888 new fans coming from the video sharing platform alone.
The rise in Chiefs’ social media following coincides with speculation of a blossoming romance between Chiefs’ tight end, Travis Kelce and global popstar, Taylor Swift, who attended the Chiefs vs Bears game at the Arrowhead stadium, and the more recent Jets vs Chiefs game on 2 October.
2. Miami Dolphins – 3.88% increase
The Miami Dolphins are in second place with a growth rate of 3.88%. The Dolphins have gained an additional 157,906 followers across Tiktok, Instagram, Threads and Twitter since the start of the season, with the majority of these new followers coming from Instagram and Tiktok, where the team is most active.
3. Philadelphia Eagles – 2.63% increase
Philadelphia Eagles rank third with a combined increase of 2.63% in social media followers across the four social media platforms since the start of the season. The Eagles currently have a combined 9.3 million followers across these platforms and their TikTok videos have received 68.9 million likes.

Their largest fan base is on Twitter, where they have amassed 1.4 million followers.
5. San Francisco 49ers – 2.43% increase

Rounding out the top ten, also in tied position are the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars with a 1.69% increase in followers.
The Los Angeles Rams were the only NFL team with fewer followers now than at the start of the season, with a net loss of 8,529 followers (-0.19%) across the four social media platforms.
Tudor Turiceanu, Chief Editor for Casino Alpha commented on the findings:
“Social media offers fan a way to establish a connection with their fellow supporters, whether that be celebrating their team’s successes or berating them for their losses.
“It is fascinating to see how each teams’ social media following has changed over the course of the season, with the Kansas City Chiefs receiving an unexpected boost in followers, due in part to Taylor Swift’s affiliation with Chief’s tight end, Travis Kelce.
“It will be interesting to see how these rankings change as the season unfolds, with Super Bowl contenders likely to see the biggest jump.”

Methodology:
Follower counts were recorded on the 7 September, 2023 prior to the first game of the 2023 NFL season and compared with mid-season follower counts on 4 October, 2023 in order to calculate percentage change. Data is therefore correct as of 4 October, 2023.
Facebook followers were not included as part of the analysis, as follower counts on the platform are often only available to the nearest 100,000 followers, meaning that changes to follower counts could not be accurately captured.
