Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) – The Marshfield Common Council has approved funding for long-awaited upgrades to Strohman Memorial Park, a tribute to fallen firefighter Lieutenant Marvin Strohman and other local firefighters who have served the community. The decision was made during the January 28, 2025, council meeting after fundraising efforts fell short of initial expectations.

Strohman Memorial Park, located in downtown Marshfield, honors Lieutenant Strohman, who died in the line of duty in 1981. The park has been a landmark of remembrance for local firefighters and their contributions to public safety. Plans to renovate the space were included in the city’s 2024 Capital Improvement Plan, with an estimated budget of $100,000. Initially, the project was expected to receive $65,000 from grants and private donations, while $35,000 was set aside from room tax revenues.

However, despite efforts to secure additional funding through grant applications and private contributions, those sources did not materialize. To ensure the park renovations move forward, the council unanimously approved the use of the $35,000 from room tax funds during the latest meeting.

The scope of the park improvements has not yet been finalized, but city officials remain committed to enhancing the space for visitors and community members. The next steps will involve refining the renovation plans and moving forward with implementation in 2025.

For updates on the project, residents are encouraged to follow future Marshfield Common Council meetings and city announcements.
