Discussion Included Pool Funding
City Communicates OnFocus – Marshfield Common Council passed the 2019-2023 Capital Improvement Program, laying out capital project spending for the next five years.
Included in the plan is approximately $9.8 million in street repaving projects over the five year span. Also included are some major street projects, including reconstructing Cleveland Street from Walnut to Doege and Traffic Lights or a Roundabout at McMillan and St. Joseph’s in 2020,and rebuilding West 5th St from Chestnut to Oak in 2021.
There was discussion by the council on pool funding. The replacement for Hefko Pool is
currently planned for 2020. “We are not at a place financially, conceptually, and architecturally right now. It will take about 9-12 months of getting designs. It is typically a long process and we are not at that point,” stated Justin Casperson, Director of Parks and Recreation.
“As to the condition of the pool we are currently draining it, cleaning it and painting it,” he added. “It is showing its age. Plaster is now peeling up from the pool shell itself. We are bringing in some companies to fix the plaster. The concrete is heaving inside restrooms. We had to fix a few doors because they no longer open or close because the concrete is heaving”
The plan passed 8-1 with Alderwoman Spiros voting no and Alderman Hendler absent.
