MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – After making significant cuts to the City of Marshfield Public Safety Budget for 2023, the Common Council is expected to make an official resolution to move forward with a Public Safety Referendum. If approved, the referendum would appear on the April 4 ballot and voters would decide whether to pass or deny it. Approval would mean an increase in taxes, with the amount yet to be finalized.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Council will decide whether to hire a promotional firm to promote the referendum to voters.
At the January 10 meeting of the Common Council, members confirmed wanting to move ahead with hiring/retaining nine firefighter/paramedics, a police officer, a police records specialist, and an administrative associate that would jointly serve both the fire and police departments.
The Police & Fire Commission recommended these staffing levels to Council after reviewing a report from the two departments.
This is a developing story and more information will be provided in the coming weeks. Tune into Common Council on Tuesday, January 24 at 6:00pm. (More on School District Referendum here.)
