Chippewa (OnFocus) – Colby and Durand traded punches in a state semifinal Friday evening, and the Hornets held off Durand in the final seconds to pick up a 28-24 win. The Hornets advance to the Division 6 State Football Championship Game, to be played at 1:00 on Thursday.
The Hornets took a two-score lead early in the fourth quarter when Mason Voss scored on a 32-yard touchdown, taking a 28-16 lead.
Following a 16 yard touchdown from Durand quarterback Simon Bauer to Ethan Fedie with 3:56 left, Colby was able to run off much of the clock before Durand took over. The Hornets stopped a Durand attempt to take the lead with time running out and are headed to state.
Colby rushed for 248 yards on 45 carries, led by senior quarterback Brent Jeske, who had 22 carries for 143 yards. Jeske scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 25 yards and completed a 48-yard scoring toss to Caden Healy.
Durand’s Bauer, the state’s top rusher this season, had 127 yards on 30 carries.
