Colby Goes 5-1 at Sparta Tournament, Finishes 2nd Overall

Colby goes 5-1 at Sparta Tournament on 9/14 and finishes 2^nd overall

Colby goes undefeated in Pool play beating Sparta (D1), Altoona (D2), Mauston (D3), and Arcadia (D3) all in straight sets.  In single elimination pool play, Colby defeats Neillsville (D3) in straight sets but falls to Altoona in the championship match.  Colby finishes the day 5-1 with a second-place finish (out of 10 teams).

I was very pleased with the lady’s performance today and at the rate we are improving we should have a strong showing as we start hitting our first conference matches.  The girls put in some solid time this week preparing for opponents and it showed against some extremely talented teams.  The girls just ran out of gas in the championship match vs Altoona after beating them in pool play 25-20, 25-14.  Altoona has some great athletes and wonderful coaches, they got them fired up and they played very well.

Strong performances by our Setter Savana Thomsen and Outside Daelyn Rieck on both offense and defense, I don’t have the stats yet but easily the best day performance by both of them in all categories.  Our middle hitters Lilly Brzezinski and Harrison Schmitt took another huge step forward.  Lilly absolutely dominated the net and by far had her best performance today, and Harrison played very efficiently today with some critical kills and defensive play.  Serving was led by Hannah Trush and some great defensive play.  I am so proud of all of the girls, they played fantastic, and the whole team came together to make this happen.
