Colby Hornets Cross Country Season Preview

Coaching staff

Bryon Graun

Key returners:

Girls
Willow Oehmichen, Makenna Herrmann, Reagan Schraufnagel, Pearl Fieten–these four were all part of the team that went to state last year.  We lost 3 top notch seniors but with the leadership of WIllow with this supporting cast, we have an opportunity to do pretty well again this season
Boys
Max Adams–he has some high goals and but in a ton of miles this past summer and has a really solid base to start the season.
Key newcomers:
Girls
Annamarie Schmitt–a solid freshman that will probably make our varsity squad this year by being in the top 5 of a great group of girls.
Boys
Matthew Sprotte, Gavin Reis–two freshmen who were pretty good last year as 8th graders.  Matthew could be our #2 runner ahead of a nice pack of our 3rd-7th place group.

Conference outlook

Girls are probably the favorite to win the Cloverbelt again (it would be 5 in a row if we are successful).  Fall Creek and Regis will have some strong individuals but I believe our depth will carry us a long way.
Boys–Bloomer is probably the favorite with McDonnel, Stanley and us fighting for the 2nd-4th place spots.

Hi Bryon and Jim,

I am asking for your help in sharing the request below for fall sports season previews – Colby CC of course, swimming and volleyball.  Thanks!

Keys to your success this season:

Working hard, staying healthy, and running within their abilbity.

Behind the scenes: Who are some of the people that help your program succeed?

A solid group of parents, Coach’s wife Olivia is a huge supporter of the team.  Earl Wilhelmi is our team grandpa who cheers at all our meets, helps work on our home course trail and always brings treats to our meets.

Coach’s comments: anything else you’d like to share?

We have a great group of kids who are hard working and have already come together in the first 3 days of practice together.  They are supportive of one another and really care about one another.  Evening though we graduated some very talentated runners, this group is going to make some noise of their own.  I am excited to see all they can accomplish though out the fall.
