Colby (OnFocus) – It was a long time coming, playing the first game of the season on September 25, 5 weeks later than has been customary. For the Colby Hornets, the wait was worth it, and right from the start, the Hornets took it to their new Marawood opponent, Thorp. The Hornets handled the Cardinals in dominating fashion, picking up a 54-6 victory.
The Hornets got on the board early when they recovered a Cardinals’ fumble deep in the visitor’s territory. Two plays later, Mason Voss scored from 11 yards out.
After Thorp went three and out, Colby went right back at it, with quarterback Brent Jeske taking charge. His toss to Brandon Voelker put Colby in scoring position at the 21 yard line, and his 19 yard run with 6:27 in the opening quarter gave Colby a 16-0 lead.
Colby struck three times in the third quarter, with touchdown runs from Voss(15 yards) and Jeske(2 yards) sandwiched around a scoring strike through the air.
Voss picked up 40 yards rushing on 7 carries to go with his pair of touchdown runs.
Jeske connected with Brody Decker on a 46 yard bomb that proved the signal caller’s versatility. Jeske’s stat line for the evening was impressive, leading all rushers with 77 yards on 9 carries. He was an efficient 3 of 6 through the air, collecting 86 passing yards.
The Hornets cruised in the second half, scoring three third quarter touchdowns.
