Columbus Catholic baseball drops home game to first-place Greenwood

MARSHFIELD – Columbus Catholic had conference-leader Greenwood on the ropes early, but the Indians rallied to beat the Dons 5-3 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.

Columbus Catholic scored single tallies in each of the first three innings to open up a 3-0 lead before Greenwood came back.

The Indians scored three times in the fourth inning and added two more in the sixth, while holding Columbus scoreless over the final four innings.

Cooper Bredlau earned the win for Greenwood (13-2, 10-1 Cloverbelt East), throwing 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief. Trenton Klabon came on to get the final out for the save.

Bredlau also added two hits and an RBI, and Jonah Hinker had a double and scored twice for Greenwood.

Bryce Fuerlinger and Jaden Nienast each had two hits to account for four of the five hits for Columbus (3-9, 3-6 Cloverbelt East).

Columbus Catholic plays a doubleheader at Owen-Withee on Thursday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
