MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic took advantage of eight errors by Northland Lutheran/Wisconsin Valley Lutheran to beat the Wolfcats 11-1 in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal on Tuesday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
Five of Columbus Catholic’s runs scored on errors and another scored on a wild pitch as the Dons rolled to the win.
The Dons (6-11) scored in all six of their at-bats, ending the game with a pair of runs in the sixth inning to win due to the 10-run rule.
Addison Baierl had an RBI single in the first inning, and Maren Seefluth drove in a run with a single and Taylor Tolppi had a sacrifice bunt for an RBI in a four-run third inning that gave Columbus Catholic a 6-1 lead.
Baierl did the rest on the mound, shutting out NLWVL over the final three innings. She finished with a one-hitter, striking out nine.
Addison Baierl, Seefluth and Tolppi all had two hits and scored twice for the Dons.
Columbus Catholic will host a regional final Thursday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds against Wausau Newman Catholic (4-8) beginning at 5 p.m. The No. 8 seed Cardinals upset No. 1 seed Almond-Bancroft, 10-9, on Tuesday.
