Columbus Dons Excel at Pair of Invites

Here are our write-ups from the two meets this last week. Special items of note is that sophomore Lucky Laessig has finished runner-up in the Discus in each of the last three meets, throwing 116, 117, and 118-feet. There’s a photo of him throwing the Discus attached, along with some others. Use what works!
 
Augusta Beaver Invite:
We had a great meet in Augusta to wrap up last week. We scored a combined 179 team points and broke another 14 lifetime PRs!
We crowned two meet champions: Our girls 4x400m Relay team of Sophie Wilczek, Hailey Hargraves, Aubrey Waldhauser, and Azariah Hoffman (4:50.60) and freshman Nathan Scheer in the 3200m Run (11:19.45). We also 8 meet runners-up: Junior Jenny Schneider in the 1600m Run (6:22.47), Waldhauser in the High Jump (4′ 6″) and Pole Vault (8-feet), sophomore Lucky Laessig in the Discus (117′ 6″), senior Seth Roewe in the Pole Vault (10′ 4″), sophomore Dakota Hannasch in the 110m Hurdles (20.91), sophomore Brady Zimmerman in the 3200m Run (12:41.64), and our boys 4x400m Relay team of Hannasch, Roewe, Elliott Alcott, and Davis Vinnedge (4:02.14).
3rd place finishes went to sophomore Jaylee Garneau in the 1600m Run (6:27.97), Hannasch in the 300m Hurdles (48.69), Vinnedge in the 110m Hurdles (22.66), and our Girls 4x200m Relay team of Hargraves, Wilczek, Waldhauser, and Hoffman (2:01.40). Rounding out the Top 5 was Garneau in the 800m Run (4th, 2:58.73), N. Scheer in the 1600m Run (4th, 5:10.70), Alcott in the 300m Hurdles (4th, 51.18), our girls 4x100m Relay team (4th, 1:07.22), Hoffman in the Long Jump (5th, 13′ 5.4″) and Pole Vault (5th, 7-feet), Vinnedge in the 400m Dash (5th, 58.30), sophomore Cade Jansen in the 800m Run (5th, 2:15.80), freshman Elijah Wolf in the 1600m Run (5th, 5:15.34), and a 5th place tie between Alcott and sophomore Jackson Bernitt in the Pole Vault (9′ 4″).
Our boys team finished in 3rd place ahead of Loyal, Whitehall, Augusta, and Alma-Pepin. Our girls finished in 5th, ahead of Alma-Pepin and Augusta. Owen-Withee and Colby took the top spots for both genders. The Dons will be back in action on Tuesday at Gilman, starting at 4:15pm.
Wood County Meet:
It was cold and rainy on Tuesday for the annual Wood County Invitational, but the Dons came to compete! We won or finished runner-up in 7 events and racked up a combined 139 team points.
Junior Isaac Scheer won the 3200m Run (10:06.50) and was runner-up in the 1600m Run (4:38.35). Sophomore Lucky Laessig took 2nd place in the Discus (116′ 9″). Senior Cal Birkhauser finished runner-up in the 800m Run (2:09.47). Junior Aubrey Waldhauser took 2nd in the High Jump (4′ 8″). Freshman Nathan Scheer finished in 2nd place behind Isaac in the 3200m Run (11:28.23). And our girls 4x800m Relay team (Jenny Schneider, Jaylee Garneau, Charlotte Schiferl, and Katelyn Becker) also finished runner-up (12:57.12).
3rd place finishes went to Seth Roewe in the Pole Vault (9′ 6″), Aubrey Waldhauser in the Pole Vault (8′ 0″), and our girls 4x400m Relay team (Sophie Wilczek, Schneider, Garneau, Schiferl, 5:10.06).
Other Top 5 finishes included Elliott Alcott in the Pole Vault (4th, 9-feet), Becker in the 3200m Run (4th, 17:52.77), Azariah Hoffman in the Pole Vault (4th, 7′ 6″), Dakota Hannasch in the 300m Hurdles (4th, 47.66) and 110m Hurdles (5th, 21.21), Waldhauser (4th, 21.72) and Hailey Hargraves (5th, 24.06) in the 100m Hurdles, Elijah Wolf in the 800m Run (5th, 2:22.08), Nathan Scheer in the 1600m Run (5th, 5:06.51), Livvie Laessig in the Discus (5th, 67′ 1″), our girls 4x100m and 4x200m Relay teams, and our boys 4x400m Relay team (5th, 3:57.91).
