MARSHFIELD, WI – At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Common Council approved a development agreement with Weinbrenner Shoe Company, paving the way for the company to construct a new manufacturing facility in the Mill Creek Business Park. The $14.5 million project is set to break ground next month.

The 70,000-square-foot facility will expand Weinbrenner’s operations, adding 35 new jobs to its existing workforce of 120. The new plant is expected to open in late 2025 and will join other prominent businesses

The City of Marshfield developed Mill Creek Business Park, along with Yellowstone Industrial Park, to promote business and industrial growth within the community. Recently, the state of Wisconsin certified 123 acres in Yellowstone Industrial Park as a shovel-ready site, further enhancing the area’s appeal for development. Norwood Industrial Park, a privately owned site, also offers additional opportunities for growth.

City Administrator Steve Barg praised the long-standing relationship between Marshfield and Weinbrenner, saying, “As a manufacturer of high-quality footwear and an exceptional employer, Weinbrenner has always been and continues to be a very important part of the Marshfield community.”

Founded in 1892, Weinbrenner Shoe Company is one of the oldest shoe manufacturers in the United States, renowned for its Thorogood work boots. The company’s decision to expand in Marshfield reflects its commitment to the community.

“We could not be prouder as a community to have partnered with Weinbrenner to assist with incentives to ensure this great local employer stays here in Marshfield and grows,” said Mayor Lois TeStrake. “Weinbrenner has employed hundreds of folks here in Marshfield over the years, and thankfully, with their large investment and commitment to stay right here, we will be able to celebrate hundreds more over the years,” she added.
