Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) Common Council voted 8-0 with two aldermen absent to allow its meetings to be broadcast live on Facebook.
Back in March, the Council approved providing live coverage via Facebook with an amendment to receive specifics before moving forward.
“I feel strongly that we’re ready to do this,” Communications Director Tom Loucks told the Council.
Government meetings are currently live streamed on the city website and aired on cable access channel 991. Facebook would be an additional platform for the meetings.
Viewers would not be able to comment on the video until the Facebook live stream is completed.
“Questions that come from this meeting from residents, just like any post that we do, our department monitors those and answers those accordingly and gets information from departments heads of staff first and follows up with that,” said Loucks.
The council first considered live streaming its meetings at its meeting on October 10, 2017. The idea was proposed by the cable access coordinator as a way to gain more viewership. After discussion, the Council moved to table the item.
